Cholesterol Friendly Dressings, Dips & Sauces

My fridge has a whole shelf dedicated to dressings and sauces that I use for all sorts of recipes and for adding to leftovers. I also like having a few dips like houmous and guacamole in the fridge to add to salads and sandwiches, and to snack on with oatcakes, carrot sticks or pitta bread.

There are lots of cholesterol-friendly dressings, dips and sauces available in the supermarket, and you can also make your own at home pretty quickly. I’ve included a list of my favourites below. The ones that contain olive oil, avocados, beans, garlic, nuts and seeds are especially good as all of these ingredients actively lower cholesterol.

The ones with asterisks are quite high in sugar, so try not to eat these too often. Also beware of the salt content in some of the supermarket varieties. The NHS recommendation is for adults to eat no more than 6g of salt (2.4g sodium) a day.

From the supermarket:-

  • Apple sauce *
  • Bbq sauce *
  • Basil olive oil
  • Branston pickle *
  • Bolognese pasta sauce
  • Brown sauce *
  • Chilli dipping sauce *
  • Chilli olive oil
  • Cranberry sauce *
  • Dijon mustard
  • English mustard
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Garlic olive oil
  • Guacamole
  • Hoisin sauce *
  • Horseradish
  • Houmous
  • Mango chutney *
  • Mint sauce *
  • Sesame oil
  • Soy sauce
  • Tahini

  1. Great list, I’ve always got some houmous in the fridge or the makings of it in my pantry! And lots of oils and vinegars to whip up into a fresh dressing in no time.
Thanks for including my spicy peanut dressing to you your round up 🙂
