As a mum of a toddler and baby I find that my breakfasts these days are rushed, almost always interrupted and generally eaten standing up. So to make things a bit easier I now have overnight oats most mornings.
Some meats and dairy products are high in saturated fat, which can raise cholesterol levels if eaten frequently. Therefore, if you have high cholesterol, it’s best to eat more plant proteins, oily fish, lean meats and low fat dairy products instead.
If you love bread then you’ll be pleased to hear that most types of bread are cholesterol-friendly, so are great for a low cholesterol diet. More than that, many types of bread actively lower cholesterol because they’re rich in dietary fibre.
The two main things I look out for when choosing cholesterol-friendly bread are:-
Chicken is one of the top cholesterol-friendly protein options because it’s so lean. Skinless chicken breast is the best choice for low cholesterol diets because it’s very low in saturated fat (1g per 100g). Skinless chicken thighs are higher in saturated fat (2.3g per 100g), so I eat them less frequently.

It’s getting pretty cold here in England now, so I’ve dusted off my slow cooker and have been using it at least once a week. I prepare all the ingredients the previous evening, then bung it all in the slow cooker before I go to work and turn it on low so that it’s ready for when I get back. There’s something really satisfying about coming back from work to a ready-made and ready-heated meal…and the house always smells amazing!
As I’m due to give birth in a couple of months, I’m planning to cook a load of cholesterol-friendly meals to stick in the freezer, so that we don’t need to worry about cooking during the first few weeks.
